The things people actually ask.
Do I need special hardware?
No. Zenzo runs in a browser, so any tablet, phone or laptop from the last few years will do — an entry-level Android tablet is plenty. There is no card machine to buy from us and no box to plug in.
Receipt printers are the one exception: you can print to a normal printer, but small Bluetooth slip printers are not supported, because Safari on iPad has no way to talk to them. Most of our customers send the receipt on WhatsApp instead.
What actually happens when the internet goes down?
You keep selling. The till shows an offline badge, each sale is written to the device, and everything uploads on its own when the connection returns — with the real time of each sale, not the time it synced.
The one thing to know: the sales live on that device until they upload. Don't wipe the browser data or delete the app before it has caught up. The till tells you how many are still waiting.
Which parts are actually finished?
Zenzo Buziness Till is finished and in daily use: the point of sale, products and prices, refunds, discounts, cash-ups, receipts and reports. That is what you can buy today.
Bookings, customers, inventory, expenses and staff logins are being built, and every one of them is marked "in build" on this page. You cannot be charged for them until they are done. Zenzo Custom is different — that is us building around your business, quoted per project.
Does it handle VAT?
Yes. If you mark your business as VAT registered, Zenzo works out the 15% portion of every VAT-inclusive sale and prints receipts as proper tax invoices with your VAT number on them. If you're not registered, it stays out of the way entirely.
Zenzo is not accounting software and it does not file anything for you. It gives your bookkeeper clean numbers instead of a shoebox.
Can my staff use it without seeing my figures?
Not yet, and we would rather say so than pretend. Today everyone who logs in sees the same dashboard. Staff accounts with restricted access are being built, and if that is a blocker for you, say so — it moves things up the queue.
What happens to my data if I stop paying?
Nothing happens until the month you have paid for runs out. After that the software stops working — the till will not take a sale, and neither will anything else.
Your records stay readable for 30 days so you can log in and export your sales history. After 30 days they are deleted. Take your export inside that window; once it's gone we cannot get it back.
Is my business's data separate from everyone else's?
Yes, and it is enforced by the database rather than by the app. Every record carries a business id, and the database refuses to return or accept a row that belongs to a different business — even if something in the app were to ask for one. That is tested, not assumed.
What's the catch with the free month?
There isn't one, but there is a condition: you have to put card details in to start it. That is so the subscription continues by itself when the month is up, rather than everything stopping because you forgot to come back.
Nothing is taken for 30 days. We show you the exact date of the first charge before you confirm, and it sits in your dashboard afterwards. Cancel before that date and no subscription payment is taken.
How do I pay, and can I cancel?
Card or EFT through PayFast, monthly. You can cancel any time from your own dashboard — no phone call, no retention script.
A month you have paid for is yours in full. Cancelling takes effect at the end of the period you have paid for, so cancel on day two and the till still works to the last day of that month. What cancelling stops is the next payment.
We don't normally refund the unused part of a month you chose to cancel during. Billing mistakes are a different matter and we fix those — the full position, including your rights under South African law, is in the cancellation and refund policy.
